About the exhibit
Step into a world of colour, light and transformation.
Experience a stunning collection of original art from our world-class Special Collections — divided into four thematic sections, one for each season. From the vibrant blooms of spring to the crisp air of winter, this exhibition brings the natural world to life through the eyes of talented artists from Canada and beyond. Whether you’re a long-time art lover or new to the scene, this exhibition offers something for everyone.
Highlights:
- Rare paintings dating back to 1807 from our Canadian Documentary Art Collection
- Beautiful photos of Algonquin Park in the fall and other gems from our Toronto Star Photograph Archive
- Massive wildlife prints from John J. Audubon’s Birds of America (TPL has one of only three copies in Canada)
- Charming illustrations from children’s books by Canadian and Canada-based illustrators such as Margret Bloy Graham, Brenda Clarke and Qin Leng
- Fantastical artwork from our Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation & Fantasy, including art by Elizabeth Pearse
We also encourage you to pop by our mini exhibit to see reproductions of Toronto aquatints by Nicolas Hornansky (1896–1967) on the second floor of Toronto Reference Library.
